Beware of www.everyprice.com (whose ostensible legal name is noted as EveryPrice.com, Inc. on its web site).

Purportedly a price comparison search engine, www.everyprice.com features as comparison merchants The Digital Nerds, Broadway Photo, and Prestige Camera, internet merchants who have a history of advertising low electronic prices, and then attempt to pull a bait-and-switch on the buyer, or attempt to coerce the buyer into purchasing accessories (and often unnecessary ones) at high prices. When the buyer refuses to concede to the extra items and extra charges, he is often told that the item advertised is "out of stock," or is a "refurbished" item and that a "new" item costs significantly higher.

I had that experience with a real rip-off merchant, The Digital Nerds, which is "price compared" on the www.everyprice.com web site. Amazingly, The Digital Nerds supposedly has 2523 customer reviews on that web site, and not one of them showed up as a negative! (Check The Rip-Off Report for the real reviews on the advertising fraud being perpetrated by The Digital Nerds!) Also amazingly, I believe The Digital Nerds has only been around for about 6 months or so, a very short time in which to accumulate 2523 customer reviews (let alone all positive ones).

In addition, Broadway Photo, another internet merchant that has received many valid complaints as to false advertising and questionable business practices, supposedly somehow managed to receive 2173 positive customer reviews AND a "Trusted Merchant" status. And Prestige Photo, another merchant who has received complaints along the lines of the two aforementioned internet merchants, has 1256 reviews (most positive) and a "Quality Seller" rating.

Putting this in perspective, Amazon.com has but 7 reviews, and only a 3 out of 5 stars rating! So we're to believe that not that many people shop at Amazon.com?!

Further, I personally submitted a NEGATIVE review of The Digital Nerds to www.everyprice.com, and it was NOT posted! Correspondence sent by me to www.everyprice.com regarding this non-posting went unanswered.

In addition, the "ratings" given to merchants like The Digital Nerds, Broadway Photo, and Prestige Camera are very fishy just by virtue of the "identities" of the supposed reviewers: they are generally in the form of first names like "Jennipher," "Richard," and "Margaretta." Also, several legitimate online merchants have no reviews at all!

It's obvious what is occurring here. EveryPrice.com, Inc. (assuming that name is even a true legal entity) at best is allowing fraudulent merchants to post ersatz positive reviews for their companies on the www.everyprice.com website. At worst, the www.everyprice.com website is either working hand-in-hand with or is actually operated by these questionable merchants.

So beware of the www.everyprice.com website and those fake positive reviews you'll see for those rip-off merchants.

Thomas is correct about price comparison web sites

AUTHOR: Joseph - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, May 16, 2007

Thomas' comment (in response about what appears to be fraud perpetrated on the www.everyprice.com web site) is correct. There's only a couple of "price comparison web sites" in which I have high faith regarding their honesty, and it's my suspicion that a number of these sites at minimum charge an advertising fee of sorts to be included.

But www.everyprice.com is so transparent regarding the obvious fraud: posting sky-high positive (and false) reviews for merchants that have a heavy track record of false advertising and bait-and-switch, while having no or almost no reviews for legitimate online merchants! And, since they failed to post my negative review of the The Digital Nerds (which would have been the only negative review for those crooks!), it's pretty obvious that www.everyprice.com is working hand-in-hand with or is in fact being managed by those devious online merchants!

By the way, I have filed an FTC complaint against The Digital Merchants, as well as a complaint with the Attorney General of the State of New Jersey (in which state The Digital Merchants is supposedly located, but of which I really am not sure). I would urge that anyone else out there who has also been affected by The Digital Nerds' deceitful business practices to do the same. And if they have attempted to charge or over-charge your credit card, or defraud you in any way, make sure to immediately contact your credit card company and file a dispute IN WRITING within the statutory 60-day period. Please also take the actions of filing a complaint with FTC and the appropriate state's attorney general for ANY deceitful merchant that attempts to pull these unlawful scams.

Many Shopping Bots are suspect

AUTHOR: Thomas - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, May 16, 2007

and so far I have found only one Shopping Bot that seemed to be totally above board because I could not independantly beat its 'best' price offers from reputable vendors, and that Shopping Bot also actually seemed to monitor its buyer feedback posts to purge "ersatz positive reviews".

Other shopping bots were pretty good if used with a grain of caution, but one still had to read the buyer reviews for any specific seller to check for "ersatz positive reviews".

Sometimes it is just as easy and a lot cleaner to do your own web search on the item you are interested in. But DO be as specific as you can.

Some hits will be "ersatz" because some sites, especially some shopping bots and ebay, are programmed to claim they have whatever you want even when they (often) do not. I just check the "address.com" to determine if it is an appropriately named dealer, or if it is ebay or a shopping bot which I will ignore.
