StorageMart is dishonest. It buys out existing companies then dishonors existing contracts, jacks up fees, and adds surcharges then poorly maintains the property.

StorageMart raises rental prices to existing customers in dead of winter, November and December, when cold wet weather will damage goods in a new move and frustrate holiday plans.

StorageMart is a price gouger. StorageMart charges 48% more - $141 monthly - than 63 South Mini Storage (located 10 minutes south) that charges $95 for same size unit.

StorageMart uses fraudulent billing practices. Customer charged $141 rent for unit, company billing system states $120 rent for same unit.

StorageMart adds next month rent to cusomer account on 11th or 12th day of current month in order to inflate balance due if the customer cannot pay and goods are auctioned off.

StorageMart charges excessive late fees, even to customers of more than 5 years or experiencing job loss or severe medical problems: Deliquent account processing fee $35. Late charge $10 on 4th day of month. Overlock charge $15 on 6th day. $50 lock cutoff fee. All late fees together total more than $100 a month.

Cutting the Locks at Storage Mart

AUTHOR: P.c. - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 17, 2012

Good Afternoon

I can't figure why Storage Mart continue to charge fees for cutting the locks if they are aware the customer doesn't have access to their storage.  What's the point?  I think that needs to be investigate asap.

StorageMart local self storage is a good place to store your stuff

AUTHOR: Tron - (U.S.A.)

I am sorry this person did not enjoy their experience at StorageMart. It sounds like the person was upset at owing late fees when not paying rent on time. Late fees and the lien and collection processes are all done according to state statutes that were set up years ago to prevent consumer abuse while helping self storage operators motivate late payers to get caught up on their rent quickly.

Yes, there is a state statute that allows storage operators to vacate a unit and auction its contents if people do not pay their rent. It is only fair that people either pay their rent or vacate the unit so it can be rented to someone else.

Prices vary as demand and supply change and often from one storage place to the next. Our customers determine how much is reasonable. If everyone wanted to rent at cheaper locations that had few if any security features and no staff on site, then we would have very few customers. The fact is we fill up every summer because people find our stores to be a good value.

We do increase rental rates periodically. Sometimes we do so late in the year to help us get a little increase in revenue during the slowest months for our business.

When we buy an existing storage business, we have the customers sign our lease and we institute our policies and proceedures. This is normal business pratice. We also improve these properties to make them more attractive and more convenient for our customers. The fact is that after we buy an existing facility, we normally see a big increase in the number of customers, because they like the improvements and our consistent business practices.

I am not saying our places always look like luxury resorts. But our customers do find our stores to be a good value.

Our customers vote with their feet. There are many choices for self storage in the areas where we do business. But our customers choose to stay put and rent with us. We couldn't be so bad as this person paints us or we would have no customers.
