i purchased a computer from rentway a gateway flatscreen they said the computer was cheaper than the computers they were going to get when they change over to rent a center soon so i purchased it i have paid over 1700 esimated on the computer as of now i have had it over 1 1/2 years as of now and i still am paying for it now they constanly harrass you for 1 week late or a couple of days late i spoke to manager about the price and he said it was unfair but since i signed the form even though they made a mistake on the price i have to pay for it no i dont think it is fair i could have paid for a car in 2 years and they still dont think im wrong
i know i am right because the manager that sold me the computer had left and went to another location so the manager that was there a couple of months ago i spoke with has left too after i had him check out the situation and now all of a sutton the manager that sold me the computer has come back for some odd reason its alot of mysterious stuff going on and i wish someone would check it out because im going to do what ever it takes to get this staight im still making my payments until they get 4000 dollars the price they say i will have to pay to own the computer which is rediculous.

It costs more with R.A.C. Either way, if you cannot pay for the item up front, you're getting ripped off more if you don't.

You saw the contract

I have been a RAC customer for more years then I care to admit. When i pull into the parking lot, they recognize my car and already have my account pulled up before i even walk in the store.
Each sales tag has on it the amount of the weekly payment, or the cash price. The contract CLEARLY states how much you will pay for the item if you pay for it weekly. YOU SIGNED THAT CONTRACT. You saw how much it was going to cost you.
You can request that they give you the pay off amount and you can pay it off early to save some money. Other then that, your choices are to either send it back, or make the payments when they are due.
And I don't think that all customers are high risk. I know we looked at the item we are currently paying on, and it would have cost us nearly as much to put it on a credit card instead of using them. We chose to go back to RAC for the convienence of making a small payment each week and if something happens to the item, they will have a new one delivered that day, or at the least, the very next day.

Rent-a-Center

Sorry to hear you feel that way. Did you know the computer was used? If so then it's your loss. If not then you have grounds for arguement. Also, I have bought many things for my home from Rent a Center in jonesboro and have had no complaints. You signed an agreement to make weekly payments not "whenever youu feel like it" payments. Also if you dont want to pay anymore money for your system then simply return it.
You will not get your money back but you wouldnt have to pay anymore either. Also if you decide to return it and get something in that general grouping such as stereo systems television or the like you get full credit of what you paid on the computer applied to the new product. My suggestion to you would be if you dont like to pay weekly then put a new one on layaway at walmart. in a 3 month period of payments to rent a center you could have a new computer paid off and in your home.

about alot of these ROR's, (not just this one, i've been enjoying this site for a few years)you people signed a contract. if you don't like the terms of a contract, you DO NOT sign it. don't come back a year and a half later and say it is a ripoff. i have never been in a rentway, and i've never used rac, but i have been in one of their stores, and they have the prices listed of what you pay to buy it today, or to rent to own, which was usually about 3 times more or so. i do not know if they all do this, like i said i've only been in 1 store. however, my point is still READ the contract. if you don't understand something, get a lawyer to explain it to you. in my area (st louis, mo) i think you can get an aaty, for about $150, maybe less, to check out a contract. it sure is a whole lot cheaper than 4k for a used computer. one final ps-yes they will harrass you for their money, most people who use rent to own places usually don't have the best payment records.
