I bought the kitchenAid KDTM354ESS dishwasher based on Consumer Reports recommendation... paid almost $1,000 for "quietest and best dishwasher on the market"

If this is truly the best on the market then forget ever buying a dishwasher and get out the scrub brush and dishpan.  This one is a dungpile!

It is quite silent and very energy and water efficient while it doesn't clean your dishes!

If you eat only dry crackers and drink tap water this device may be able to clean your dishes properly but it is useless cleaning anything that ressembles food residue on any tableware.  I even switched to using the KitchenAid recommended detergent pouches and use only the heavy soil "pro-scrub" heated washing water cycle for ALL dishes -  even if just lightly soiled - and still 20% of them come out with lots food residue.  Forget ever washing a coffee cup or a cereal bowl... it will leave half of the coffee or cereal in it.  Absolute zero performance on blueberry, coffee, mashed potatoes and oatmeal.

The machine has dozens of fancy sounding options for various levels of washing, drying, scrubbing, rinsing, sensing etc. but they are totally wasted because even the lightest load won't come clean with the toughest wash cycle.  The "Soil-Sense" TM setting was amazingly efficient at leaving more filth on the dishes than even the light china setting...Maybe "Soil Sense" means "maximize residual soil on dishes".

This looks like a great example of an over engineered product that can't do the most basic function it was designed to do. Maybe someone got too busy thinking that being silent and environmentally efficient was so important that cleaning dishes became a secondary concern,

I bought this evil device to replace my previous KitchenAid dishwasher which was absolutely fantastic but on its last leg after 21 years of service.
