First a few quick realities:
⦁ In the normal course of business real estate developers almost always file liens and trust deed notes to whomever they secure funding from, oft times 1st and 2nd liens for different lenders, which liens & notes are placed against the lots or other real property being funded in the name of those lenders, and typically those loans are repaid and then the liens are released routinely. Title companies typically file these liens and trust deeds, and all developers use title companies that they have a good working relationship with, and who give them prompt priority assistance (favors), all of which is governed by law and such services are fully insured under the title company’s errors and omissions (E&O) insurance coverage to protect lenders and buyers from errors or dishonest actions. This was the case with the Twin Lakes development in St. George Utah and any/all valid claims presented would have been fully covered.

⦁ The development did in fact build the housing in the development via a high quality premanufactured panelized housing system for all of the homes sold and built.

⦁ The development did in fact have serious interest from and was negotiating with Radisson Hotels for a franchise hotel to be built on the hillside overlooking the golf course, but before a deal could be achieved the bank failure crisis of 2008 & 2009 had begun and most all institutional and private funding effectively ended. That national banking crisis caused ANB (Arkansas National Bank), the primary bank of the Twin Lakes development, to fail in May of 2008 and the FDIC came in and took over the failed bank and all of the bank’s assets – including the Twin Lakes development. Through no fault of their own, no one lost more in that process than Mr. Haslem and his associates who were involved in the development for many years of their lives efforts. The FDIC covered legitimate loss claims up to $250,000.

⦁ Cities don’t foreclose on property, banks or lien holders do. There were never any foreclosure actions by the city, though there was a bank failure that caused the demise of the development.

⦁ Bounced checks are a crime, if they occur uncorrected legal action is taken against the issuer, none was.

Worthwhile Efforts:
Mr. Haslem has never been nor claimed to be an international banker or investor, but from more than 35 years of international business travel and involvement he does have many friends and high level international associates. He has worked with those associates on various worthwhile business efforts and also several different humanitarian causes. One of the good humanitarian efforts Mr. Haslem was associated with was a group that was promoting restoring, and assisting with vision/sight and other needed rather simple medical procedures. Their plan was to retrofit large aircraft like old out of service airline Boeing 747 aircraft and convert them into flying hospitals where such medical assistance is provided in a safe clean environment in needy countries. Orbis and other goodly non-profit groups provide similar extraordinary worthwhile services.

Another significant humanitarian cause that Mr. Haslem is proud to have assisted with was his efforts to assist the Carter Center in their noble efforts in Africa against the horrible debilitating diseases of River Blindness and Ginny Worm. Jimmy Carter called Mr. Haslem and asked him if he would assist him in furthering their successful efforts by introducing the Carters to some of the high profile people that Mr. Haslem had become associated with in Saudi Arabia and giving them the opportunity to donate financially to the causes. Mr. Haslem was honored to assist and worked for more than a year with the Carter Center, the Secret Service, and the Saudi security officials, and then with this assistance of his Saudi friends set up several different meetings for the Carters with high net worth individuals within the Kingdom. The Carter’s trip into the country was successful and significant financial assistance was generated to further assist the Carter Center with its goodly efforts in Africa. (See photos)

Surely Mr. Haslem will be the first to say that he is far from perfect, but to the best of his knowledge he has settled his affairs honestly and fairly, and continues that objective through his normal daily efforts. He would appreciate anyone legitimately feeling otherwise to contact him and allow him the opportunity to try to resolve anything they feel was not the case. He and his associates at TOTE International are committed to trying to achieve worthwhile things and helping others wherever reasonably possible. The name TOTE coming from Treasures Of The Earth and meaning to use the good things and good people of this earth “Treasures” and try to use them to help others in need to help themselves to greatly improved future lives.

After traveling extensively around the world to try to assist via his knowledge and/or associates, in times and places of extreme need, often after crisis events (the Middle East, Indonesia, China, Haiti, Chile) Mr. Haslem loves and appreciates three things more than ever – his family, his religious beliefs, and this great country of America and those who have made it possible. He believes that out of gratitude for all that we have and enjoy, we all ought to feel duty bound to try to help others in need to help themselves to better future lives.

Sad Reality:
It is a sad reality of life these days that almost anyone out in the world in public view can be critically abused on the internet via a quick click of a computer, or by other means with only their opinion or one side of the story without justified facts or realities. Sadly we now see this occur all too often to good people who are trying to help others and trying do good things. For example the vast majority of… our police officers, military leaders, school administrators, political leaders, church & civic leaders, etc. are good honest people just out there in public view trying to do good and help others. Why is it then that as a people we are often quick to judge someone harshly if we hear something bad about them, without taking the time to get (as Paul Harvey used to say) “the rest of the story” so the full truth can be known and appreciated; rather than goodly efforts by just normal decent good people being abused or discouraged…
