I would never go back to these people again. I had the worst experience there, like another user said - they ARE con artists. I called Cottman up and took my car in, only to have them look at it for5 minutes and tell me the timing belt is the problem (in reality, everyone knows it does not take 5 minutes to look at a timing belt). I had no problem with this 'diagnosis', until the guy told me that it would cost between $800-1,000 to get it repaired. In a state of shock, the guy insisted that I max my credit card if I didn't have the money to repair it. He didn't bother to work with me, instead of thinking I am a poor college student who needs an HONEST answer on what the problem may be on an affordable budget, he looked at me as a sucker. I was so upset (in tears at this point) that I spoke with my uncle (who is a mechanic) that told me the honest truth behind all this - that they wanted me out of there quick and wanted to rip me off all on the same note. I am guessing they didn't take me seriously because I am a college student with a 14 year old car just trying to get by. My mother even pointed out that she saw Shawn and the service "technician" exchange funny looks on how "pitiful" my car was. Well, according to my uncle, a timing belt alone is $100 and generally speaking costs around $400 to get fixed, NOT $1,000. On top of that, two days after this occured Cottman had the nerve to call me to see if I was going to give in to for their rip-off of a "repair." After this mess was over - I got second opinions from two mechanics (including my uncle) and this guy in Allentown who examined my car and told me the real problem was one of the fuel injectors. I got my car repaired for $140 and now the it runs great. I am real glad I chose to not get ripped-off and went to the most honest people in town to fix my car. In addition, I've had these mechanics tell me my timing belt seems fine. If you are reading this, please take my personal experience as a caution in regards to Cottman Transmission. If you choose to take your car there for a repair or to get it checked out, always get second opinions. If the price estimate seems too steep or questionable, GET OUT OF THERE. They do not care about their customers, all they care about is their money. I have never had anyone in my years of driving try to rip me off as much as the people at Cottman Transmission.
