AVIS/Budget rental truck rented an unsafe vehicle Tulsa, OK Oklahoma

I am a senior citizen and rented a truck from Michigan to Florida.

My son is disabled and he  and his wife was helping me. From day one we had problems.

When we picked the truck up in Grand Rapids Michigan it was not cleaned and gas was not topped off full.  We expected the truck really beat up. They had the wrong drop off on paperwork and we had her hand write it .(So we were not charged to different site)

We rented a dolly as well and after pulling it to load- we found the drivers side running light did not work. We began to load  and it started getting dark tried the cargo lights they don't work. we called to have someone come and fix it . They came at 3am.

The man that came said he could not fix the cargo inside lights because the wiring was so bad and needed to be replaced. So we could not load after dark (another delay). Fixed the dolly light. He gave us a sample of the broken wiring and told us to give it to drop off point.(WE DID THEY DID NOT CARE) We were running late -son had to go so we loaded the car before he left and the strap on driver side broken called to have someone fix it. The man that came said he never fixed a dolly before but give it a shot and placed the strap on tire. My dughter in law stayed to help and ride with me home to florida.

We loaded the truck and car and started  our trip. The weather was not being friendly. The rain came down very hard and its dark. I could not see because the front lights were so dim and when hitting bumps went off-- then on .  We drove for 57 miles mostly without any lights on a highway to a rest area. I was using passing cars headlights to keep moving. So I had to stop again to wait for it to get lighter and the rain to stop to see. (More time delay)  I checked the car and the strap was off my car 2nd time. I called and had road side come and resrtap my car and he replaced one  light because he did not have two.  So we are driving 1200 miles with one headlight.

Began again and turned on the air conditioner and it did not work. Drove from Michigan to Florida without air-conditioning in 90+ temperature and 85% humidity Did not have time to delay for hours again to get fixed.  I pulled the sun visor down to block the sun and it fell off and hit me in the head . tried to clean windows no windshield fluid I had to  buy the windshield wiper fluid .

Got on the south side of Atlanta Georgia and truck drivers were beeping as they passed, got home- it was because the strap on the car was completely broken off and my car was shifting on the dolly. I really am lucky I even made it home.

This is the first time I have used Budget and the worst moving experience I will never rent anything from them again.I have ever had to endure.  I have proof of all this by work order tickets and when we returned the truck in Leesburg FL they took it out of service. He confirmed the air did not work and strap was broken completely off.

I informed Budget about the life endurance trip I had to experiance and I was sunburn from open windows to cool off.  They responded by saying oh we would never let our customers be treated that way so we will take off $200.00 of the $1400.00 for inconvience. My answer was I could have been killed with no lights at dark. you need to make this right. no response. This truck was not maintained in any way. They are just taking the money and putting peoples lives in harms way with no care. Beware of Budget less costs then any other because you absolutely get what you pay for. Cheap unmaintained unsafe vehicle.
