Here is a story about a car purchase from Renauto- Choice Auto Brokers.

From my perspective, of course, this is a true story to the best of my recollection. Some might consider it a nightmare. It was a pain that endured and became at the end just a joke. I now consider it a lesson of life and in dealing with people of varying degrees of honesty and dishonesty.  I purchased through Ebay a 2008 Audi A-4 Convertible from this fellow at Renauto. He seemed very communicative and friendly. He appeared honest. I paid what he was asking because, as the seller stated, “This is a perfect car”.  There were incidental issues regarding the bill of sales and registration that seemed neither here nor there, in hindsight, but were clues or tell-tale signs of things to come.

The delivery of the car to NYC came and the driver was a very affable kid. I was struck at how seamless the event occurred. I was expecting a big rig and the car was driven directly to my address. Perhaps in amazement, I did not expect the car as I should have. In the excitement of my first NYC car, the car looked great, and I overlooked a few issues; the back rear light was cracked and there was a scrape near it on the back rear quarter panel. I called Renauto and was connected with the auto delivery owner. Renauto said that he would split the price of the light with me. This he honored. The delivery man on the other hand told me on 2 occasions he would be sending me a check for the installation of the light ($500), which never came. On some research I came to find this wonderful businessman had been convicted of real estate fraud.

You should know that when I purchased the car I also endeavored to secure a parking space in a garage. This would be both expensive ($800 a month) and problematic in that because the car was sheltered, I assumed the roof was ok. Couple with that none of the mechanics ever even mentioned it. The roof looked fine, to the eye. It should have been inspected.

In NY you need to get the car inspected so I brought the car to a well-respected mechanic in Brooklyn. The car I was told needed $2000.00 worth of work. Ok, I thought, well worth the price to be driving a safe car. They did not tell me of the worn brakes, the leaking roof.

I drove the car a few times so that the computer would reset for emissions and went to Long Island to play tennis. The car overheated. Then to Connecticut to visit my sister, again the car overheated. I added oil and although the air conditioner never worked, the temperature seemed to be stable.

One day, about 4 months into owning the car, the battery went bad. Ok, so I buy a battery. From Audi- $519.00.

Thinking maybe this car is not for me, I take it to a car dealership to have it appraised. The car has been in 2 accidents in the rear. This did not show up on my Experian Auto Check report-( That organization must be sketchy) auto research. The car is valued at $2500.00.

After about 6 months in the garage, I started to keep the car outside my apartment on the street. This lasted about 2 months. By now, as fate would have it, ebay would not allow a review. Then the rain came. For one weekend it rained and rained some more. Inside the car it appeared dry and normal. Then I inserted the key and nothing. No Windows, no lights, no blinkers, no roof. No nothing. So I had it towed to the Audi dealership. The car computer had been damaged by a leaking roof. The car, totaled. The end. No recourse against RenAuto or Choice Auto Brokers, no recourse against Jean Luc Ferrigno- as his signature announces- “Salesman Extraordinaire”.

When I bought the car it had 42,896 on the odometer it now has 43,496. I put a little over 1000 miles. The car was garbage when he sold it, and he knew it. That is all she wrote for a car that was just about in the grave to start. I am Just out of about $25,000.00 cash for a car that was worth $1500.00. The time I wasted on this is incalculable. I might make the 25 k back some day but  I won’t ever get that time back.  Just like the car, its gone forever. Thank you Jean Luc! As P.T. Barnum, another great salesman once said There is a fool born every minute, and two to catch him. Mr. Ferrigno, you are extraordinary. You have taught me a very hard lesson. One that has been taught through the ages by people just like you. If you want a fast lesson in being screwed do business with Jean Luc Ferrigno and Choice Auto Brokers.

Come on...try to cover it up with the "trust" smoke screen! Funny! The elevator just doesn't reach the top floor, does it??? Anybody with HALF A BRAIN knows the reputation of the sleazy car business. Anybody with HALF A BRAIN knows you can ONLY extend TRUST to someone or some entity whom or which has a developed TRACK RECORD with you! THAT is COMMON SENSE! Absolutely unbelievable! It is incredible somebody would be so gullible as to buy any used car sight unseen! "A sucker is born every minute!" ..... P. T. Barnum!

Wow, F you dude. Maybe your right, but I have a positive opinion of people not a friggin negative outlook. I had a few conversations with the seller, checked a few reviews and I did a car fax report. Eat me.

Mr. high and mighty, you are above it all, you will find the same in all walks of life you are so well prepared here and armed with such sound advice. It may not be the same in the medical or financial worlds. Best of luck to you big a*s.

This man believes that what he is doing is good, despite the avalanche of evidence against it.

The rebuttal to my report may not have been delievered by the subject of the report, but it is my belief this is an attempt to salvage respect. As I child I was taught that without self respect there can be no respect at all. Obviously, this and many other reports like this, have inspired self introspection ( ah, you are human). This is a very effective way of dealing with what you are doing to people is to deny yourself of the shortcomings that allowed the negative situation to commence in the first place. You purchased a nice looking car and you sold it at the highest price you could get. What could be wrong with that? You did not know that the car was never maintained, that the suspension was rotted, that the convertible roof was wasted. You had no idea the battery was on its last leg.  You may or may not have known these things. Yes. ignorance is bliss my dear friend, but this is your business and your reputation. If those things did not and do not matter, then yes, you are right you did nothing wrong. However, any right minded ethical person would not continue to defraud people of their money, especially when you are hiding behind the obscurity of Ebay. I would rather not deal with people like Mr. Ferrigno, whether it be to buy a pack of gum or a car. Good day Sir.

You Wanted A Decent Car, Right???

AUTHOR: Irv - (United States)

POSTED: Thursday, April 25, 2024

You wanted a trouble free car which would last you for several years, I imagine? In view of all the WELL KNOWN PERILS of buying ANY used car, here's what YOU did....YOU sent off YOUR MONEY to somebody you didn't know; YOU bought this USED CAR which YOU NEVER took for a test drive; YOU NEVER heard the engine run; YOU NEVER felt the transmission shift; YOU NEVER checked the tires; YOU NEVER checked the body for damage, fit and finish or glass damage; YOU NEVER checked each and every accessory for proper operation; YOU NEVER checked the interior for damage! To determine if this was a trouble free car, you depended only upon pictures on a computer screen, words on a computer screen and a voice over the phone! Did you even bother to read the documentation for FAKE FEES like "dealer fee", "processing fee", "electronic filing fee", or "documentation fee"? This is the prime example of the dumbing down of America. You wanted a dependable car you you didn't even have a thimble full of FINANCIAL COMMON SENSE? Where do you people ever come up with this ABSOLUTYELY STUPID IDEA of buying USED CARS, sight unseen and then coming here or other places to cry, whine and wail because of your stupid decision to do this...then you write this word excessive post to blame them when YOU, if you had any FINANCIAL COMMON SENSE, wouldn't have even for one split microsecond considered doing such a cockamamie, ridiculous thing such as BUYING ANY USED CAR SIGHT UNSEEN! How STUPID does it get??? ENJOY YOUR JUNK CAR!
