My Father, a senior citizen, got duped into a multi-level-marketing business wherein he was talked into buying services such as Vivint home security.  I tried to talk him out of it as he was on a fixed income and only supported by SS and supplemented by me.  He persisted in the business and bought a home security system through the mlm with Vivint.

Because he lived in government subsidized housing and couldn't install a system in his house, he had them install it in mine.  I did not want it, but agreed to let Vivint install it.  At no time did I agree to a credit check and/or provide my social security number.  We have NEVER even turned on the system or used it at all.  We didn't want it.

Shortly after it was installed, my Father died.  When the payments stopped, Vivint called me.  I don't know how they came to call me...I could only assume they had my Dad's name, which is the same as mine, and figured it was him.  We let Vivint know at that time that he had passed and assumed his contract would die with him.  They agreed and let me know they'd close the account.

More than a year later, I was running a credit check and learned that this company Perfection Collection had been reporting a collection action against me for some time.  Never did I receive a call or an email or a letter in an attempt to collect a debt, yet there were already months of derogatory marks on my credit as if I had ignored or neglected attempts to collect a debt.

Upon speaking to the calloused people at Perfection Collection, I received no understanding.  Mostly I was mad at their lazy attempts to collect a debt.  Any contact regarding the debt were made by me and that just isn't right.  At this point they are holding my credit at ransom for a debt that I don't owe nor should my Father at his age.

I think this MLM company was called ANC and I fault them for suckering my Dad into things in the first place.  I fault Vivint for telling me the account was closed and then selling the debt to Perfection Collection.  I fault Perfection Collection for buying debt they shouldn't have been sold, dealing with that collection in a lazy manner and for being all around jerks about the entire matter.  I will ALWAYS talk people out of using Vivint as a result.  Stay away from VIVINT!

WTF??

AUTHOR: John - (United States)

POSTED: Wednesday, July 17, 2019

You warned your father about getting involved in an MLM, but then aided him in doing so by having the Vivnt system installed in your home?  Why on Earth would you do that when all you had to do was tell your father "oh sorry, you can't join this scammy MLM because you can't have it installed?"

If your brother was an alcoholic but could not get to a liquor store, would you agree to bring the alcohol to him?
