On Feb. 19th I purchased a computer battery on eBay. The transaction was easy, the item was delivered by the seller, all was well, I even wrote a good review for the seller. Seller was paid in advance and my account was over 20 years old with several good reports as a buyer. Sometime near Mar 20th, I discovered that AT&T had leaked all of my personal, financial & private information to hackers so I began the task of updating all my accounts with a newly created email & new passwords. I went on eBay on the 26th & updated my account with a new password & email. A day after, I received an email from eBay that my account had been permanently suspended with no explanation as to why. I went onto the link to try to reactivate my account, after a few entries in responding to questions on the site, I was sent to a page to contact support, I checked the link to have someone from eBay contact me. The agent advised that my main account was set up as a guest user account, & a new account was set up as a main account with the new password & email. I said that was impossible, we went back & forth with her sending me emails with links to get back into my account, she said she had access to it so I should be able to get in with the links she was emailing. We tried 4 different browsers & nothing. I called back later & another agent said she could set up my account again, asked me security questions that were not in accordance with my credit history so I was told to call back in 24 hours. I called back a few days later. The gentleman I spoke with said that my account was not able to be retrieved because of suspicious activity on my account & if I tried to set up a new account, that one would also be closed!! I explained the hacking situation & he stated it was due to activity on March 26th. I told him the only activity at that time was my changing my password & email address, nothing more. He said he can't tell me why, that information is not given out. I would like my account reinstated as I have not breached my agreement with eBay nor have I committed any illegal activities.

Update

AUTHOR: A - (United States)

POSTED: Saturday, April 13, 2024

I filed a complaint about my situation with the BBB and I sent a letter to the corporate offices of eBay. I don't know which one worked, but someone reviewed the activity on my account and saw nothing "wrong" was done so my account was reinstated. Hope this update helps someone else.
